MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN
The Ebor Meeting at York has always been one of the highlights of our Flat Racing season, and this year’s renewal proved to be no exception.
Lord Lloyd-Webber’s Da Re Mi (by Singspiel) and Lady Bamford’s Sariska (by Pivotal) provided a resounding one, two for British breds in the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks – while the ever youthful Borderlescott (by Compton Place) did likewise when taking the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes for the second successive year.
BBM has enjoyed a brisk and productive August, which included visits to France, Spain, Sweden, and Russia. We have also played hosts to a delegation of Senior Officers serving in the Royal Cavalry of Oman, who spent five days in London and Newmarket, fact finding about our Racing and Breeding Industry.
BBM and DBS gave a joint Drinks Reception on the eve of the DBS St.Leger Yearling Sale, and gave David Redvers and John Osborne a prime opportunity to promote the new Racing Post Yearling Sales Bonus Scheme, which has been so positively received.
We have also welcomed Brightwells to membership of our BBM Committee, and very much look forward to working closely with Matt Mitchell, Head of Bloodstock, who brings a great deal of expertise and experience to the table.
And finally, I would exhort everyone to invest in a copy of Jack Berry’s uproarious new book ‘ Better late than Never’, proceeds of which will go to the Injured Jockeys Fund, a Charity which is very close to Jack’s heart. Please make cheques payable to The Injured Jockeys Fund, and send to Jack at Well Close House, Hunton, Nr Bedale, North Yorkshire DL8 1QW.
All the best,
Gavin Pritchard-Gordon
