MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN

Doncaster Bloodstock Sales, Brightwells (Cheltenham) and Tattersalls have all made encouraging starts to the New Year.

The overall average at the DBS January sale rose by 19% to £6,412 – while the average for their NH Foal sale increased by 17% to £7,530. BBM sponsored the Kenneth Oliver Memorial NH Foal Championships, for which 201 were catalogued, 36 of these by the prolific British-based stallion Kayf Tara. The BBM Marquee beside the Parade Ring – a first time initiative at DBS, and generously sponsored by Darley owned Kayf Tara standing at Overbury Stud, proved extremely popular with Industry professionals.

Brightwells January National Hunt sale was highlighted by a record breaking price of £240,000 for an unbeaten son of Presenting, which was sold to Howard Johnson, on behalf of leading NH owners Andrea and Graham Wylie.

The aggregate jumped by 40%, and the average by 3% (6745 gns) at the Tattersalls February Sale – preceded by the TBA Stallion Parade, which attracted several hundred enthusiasts to the Sales Ring at Park Paddocks.

Another milestone – British-breds dominated the Group 3 Al Rashidaya, the first Turf race to be run at the wondrous Meydan Racecourse in Dubai – Alexandros (Kingmambo), Crowded House (Rainbow Quest) and Tam Lin (Selkirk) finishing first, second and third, respectively.

Onwards and upwards for British Breeding in 2010.

All the best,
Gavin Pritchard-Gordon
